I am reading and have read.
The book I just finished is called
Lucky Man
by Michael J. Fox.
No, this isn't a book report.
I would encourage you to read this awesome story of a man and his life journey
which includes
an incurable disease called
Parkinson's.
This is a story of storms and struggles,
love and family,
secrets and truth,
depression and optimism.
It's absolutely Amazing!
Enough said.
The book I am reading was written by
Elizabeth Edwards.
It's called
Resilience.
This is the story of storms and struggles,
the crash of the ideal,
the fight against
cancer and the infidelity of her beloved husband.
This is the story of depression and optimism,
love and family,
sickness and death,
secrets and truth.
Do you see a pattern here?
I recommend both books
to help with all the storms in life we face.

We Had Quite a Storm This Morning

I was actually going to write on a different topic today, but then came the storm. It is no joke when I say that the sky darkened, and it was as dark as night. Automatic lights came on. You could hear the thunder in the background as it drew closer, then the storm hit. The winds were extremely strong. I tried to get a picture of the trees being pushed into odd shapes by the wind, but it was too dark for my camera to record. The rain was falling in sheets. It was hard to see. I'm so lucky I was at home. I would have hated to be driving in that weather.

The storm seemed to rage for an hour, but it was only about a half an hour. After the storm ended, I went outside to check for damage. I don't know how or why, but there was no damage in my yard or to my house. However, the neighbors on both sides of me had damage to their trees. I was shocked to see what the storm had done. My neighbor to the left of me had this damage to her tree. The tree is a beautiful one in the fall. I'm not sure it can survive.
My neighbors to the right of me had a big and beautiful maple tree. I was shocked to see the damage the winds had done.

That looked like the extent of the damage in our neighborhood. I walked around my house and checked, but I didn't see any damage. I feel very grateful for that. I found a small branch on my deck. It was nothing significant compared to these trees. I'm sorry about the damage, but I am glad that nothing more was hurt. As I walked around our neightborhood after the storm, I looked up and saw the sun. It's good when things return to normal.

And the Storm Moved In

I absolutely refuse to complain about the weather this summer. I just won't do it after the terribly cold winter we experienced this past year. It's been very hot and very humid for the last two days. It felt like you were swimming underwater when you went outside, and now the storm has moved in bringing much cooler and dryer air. The rain is pouring down. I even hear a few thumps of hail or great big raindrops. The sky is a funny peach color in places. Here's a picture of the storm when it first moved in.

That peachy color in the background is the color of the sky right now. The sirens haven't gone off, so I think we're okay. As the storm drew closer, this is what we saw.
Nature is so beautiful before she unleashes her power over the earth! Now, it's just too dark, but I am thinking that the storm is passing. The thunder sounds farther away. Even Spike is calm. He hates thunderstorms. Wait, I'm wrong, I hear the thunder again.

This photo was taken just before the thunder boomers started. I just looked out the window, and sure enough, more lightning, more clouds moving in. I think we're in for a stormy night. I just hope that Spike lets us sleep. Since he's my dog, I get to stay up with him if he whines and cries about the storm. Oh, well. I'm shutting off the lights and pretending that I'm asleep now. Maybe, he won't notice.
