Three Beautiful Things This Week

Three Beautiful Things This Week was inspired by a wonderful blog that Clare writes called Three Beautiful Things. Everyday, Clare writes about 3 Beautiful Things that happen each day in her life. It's a wonderful blog! I can only hope to imitate her in a very small way.

1)  What a fun time I had at the Bead and Button Show In Milwaukee.  There was so much to do!  There were so many beads to see!  There were so many people to meet!  Wow!  It was fun, but exhausting.

2) As I was walking outside just now, I took two big jumps. One happened as a cotton tail rabbit ran past me in one direction and the other as a chipmunk ran towards me.  I got some unexpected exercise outside, and it was fun!


3) I was able to spend a couple of days with Jenny on each side of my trip.  I enjoyed our time together.  She had her tests that mark one year since her stem cell transplant.  It's hard to believe that it's been a year!  It is a beautiful thing!

A Quick Trip to the Thrift Store

You'd think that after my foray into the world of the 

Bead and Button Show 

in 

Milwaukee this past weekend,

you'd be seeing my stash from there.

Well, that won't happen for a bit because I had to mail so much of it home.

What I mailed was what the TSA would not allow in my carry on luggage.

So,

today, I went to the local thrift store, 

and

I came home with some goodies.

I found these 3 necklaces.

They each cost $1.99.

I thought the ones with the orange tags were ceramic beads.

 I think they are plastic, but they sure do look like ceramic.

I took the two necklaces apart.

Here are the beads.

I did a couple of remakes, and here are the results.

It's a 5 strand cord knotted bracelet

and

a single stranded knotted necklace!

I like,

and they still look like ceramic beads!

The Gentle Giant Has a Name!

Meet the "Gentle Giant."  His name is Dell, like the computer, he says, but without the money!

If you remember THIS POST about our first meeting with this gentle giant, you will remember how much I admired Dell because, in spite of what life dealt him, the Gentle Giant, now known as Dell, faced life making lemonade instead of feeling bitter about the lemons.

Dell used to be a machinist.  With no warning, Dell was struck down by a stroke.  He lost 10% of his brain function so that he could no longer earn a living as a machinist.  His recovery was long and painful.  He told me that one day as he was wallowing around in his grief, he told his mother, "I love 10% of my brain."  She told him, "Good grief, son!  You have 90% of your brain left!"  That was a life changing moment for Dell.  He realized he DID have 90% of his brain left and a whole lot of living to do!

Today, Dell works as an Ambassador for the University of Minnesota's Fairview Hospital where Jenny had her stem cell transplant.  Dell meets and greets and escorts and gives hope to so many of those he sees every day.  He saw Jenny, yesterday, when she had her 1 year checkup.  (Can you believe it's been 1 year since Jenny's stem cell transplant?)  Dell smiled when he saw Jenny.  He said, "You are looking so good!  Your eyes have always been full of life, and they are today!  You look like you're feeling really good, too!"  Of course, we both smiled.  Later Dell saw me in the hall and he told me how proud he was of me!  He said, "Without you Moms, we couldn't make it." 

What an amazing man is this Gentle Giant!

I'm Missing The Girl

I'm no longer in Milwaukee, but I'm still missing The Girl!  I'll see her Wednesday!
I can hardly wait!

When I sort through things, I'll post some photos.  I'm really tired right now, so this will have to do!
