Awesomeness:: Day 4:: Happy Birthday, Pixie Marie!

This is so AWESOME!
5 years ago, a retired greyhound named Pixie came into my life through the Minnesota Greyhound Rescue.  I had applied with another group for a hound.  They told me to download their application, and that I should mail the application in soon.  I would probably have a dog by the end of October.  (This was early September.)

So, I went to the site, and found that I could fill the application in online and submit it there.  So, I did.  Turns out, I had applied to the wrong group.  This was in mid- September.
However, the AWESOME part of this accident of fate was that I had adopted Pixie Marie and had her by the first of October!!!

How AWESOME is that?  So, it was only a matter of days before we celebrated first birthday with her at home! (This bone was a gift!)

AWESOME!  AWESOME!  AWESOME!!

Before Pixie came to live with me, I googled the name Pixie.  The site this name search sent me to, well, let me say this,  I added the Marie.  (Trust me, what is seen cannot be unseen!)
Then the AWESOMENESS began.

Pixie began to train me well.  She chose her couch.  I am still not allowed to sit on it.  She decided that sleeping in bed with me was not what she wanted to do, except on the coldest of nights.  She taught me that she had her favorite foods and treats.  She loved her birthday cupcake, and she gets on every year!

Other than that, Pixie Marie and I seem to get along quite well, as long as we do what she wants.  She's a great friend!  I've learned so much from her.

If you're tired, why not go to sleep?
If you're not tired, why not go to sleep?

The bed is big enough for the both of us, if move over.
I'm not moving, but you are!

I love cupcakes!
You can buy them for me any time you like.

Don't be late with my dinner.
I will live with kitties, but make them leave me alone.

Yes, life is all about me.

HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY,
MISS PIXIE MARIE!

Happy Birthday, Nick!!!!!

He another year older!
That's my sweet little boy!

My little boy who went around to all the neighbors telling them that I couldn't have any more babies.
When asked why, he said, "Because I'm her baby!"
Silly neighbors didn't understand!

My sweet little boy who loved his Superman Underwear more than anything else in the world!
We knew he'd grow up to be a Superman!!

My little boy who grew to tower over all of us!

My little boy who loved his dogs so much and they loved him, too!!

My little boy who grew into an amazing man who loves his family!

My little boy who is a man with a beautiful smile and so much love in his heart!!!

Happy Birthday, Nick!

Happy Birthday, Miss Pixie Marie!

Two years later, we celebrate her 7th Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Miss Pixie Marie!
She took off running with her cupcake!
She ran to her bed and devoured her cupcake!
Even the crumbs were gone!
She tried to pretend she didn't eat it!
But empty plates don't lie.
Then it was off to Pet Expo where Pixie got to pick out her present.
Which one will she choose?
She's still not sure.
She's made her decision.
This is what she wanted!
Then she saw her friend, Kathy!
This made Pixie's day perfect!

Happy birthday, Pixie!

Another Beautiful Person in my Life or HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JENNY!

See that smile on her face?   Even though she has been through so much in the last year, that smile pops up in good, as well as, difficult and painful times for Jenny!

Happy Birthday, my beautiful daughter!
You have brought so much joy to my life, and, for that, I can't thank you enough!

When I think of the first time I held you in my arms, bundling you tightly as we were taught to do, then seeing that familiar look of determination on your face as you struggled and succeeded in pulling your arms out of the tight blanket, I knew I was in for a ride as you grew.  What a ride it's been.

I thank you for being my daughter!
I thank you for being the strong, determined woman that you have repeatedly shown yourself to be this year!
I thank you for making me so proud of you!
I thank you for choosing me to be your mother!
Happy Birthday, Jenny!  I love you!
You are one of God's greatest gifts to me!

Three Beautiful Things This Week - Happy Birthday, Nick!

I'm changing the format of Three Beautiful Things this Week, because today, July 22, is my son's birthday!

Happy 32nd birthday, Nick!
I love you!

Nick is one of the two most beautiful things to ever come into my life!
He was born at 1:38 AM.  I almost slept through it because I never stay up that late, but when he was born, and I held that 9 pound 12 oz baby in my arms, all I could think of is,
"His newborn clothes won't fit," and they didn't!
I had to send Dan home to scrounge up the larger sized clothes that we had, and, when we went home,
he did have something to wear besides a diaper.

This is one of my favorite photos of Nick and our Basset Hound, Oliver.
Nick had a special relationship with that dog.
They were truly a boy and his dog.
One time when I came home from work,
Oliver came out of the family room, and he was soaking wet.
I asked him,
"Who did this to you?"
Oliver went back into the family room looking so very sad and sat next to Nick.
Nick had to give me his squirt gun, but Oliver and he were best friends again in a matter of minutes.
They truly loved each other!
Nick has always had an infectious smile!
He can make a room warm up when he grins!
The only concern I have is that I raised him to be a White Sox fan.
When he  moved back to Chicago,
he converted!
I don't know what I'll do with him!
That grin of his, though, makes me melt like butter!
Nick also has an amazing sense of humor.
Not only has he worn his "green man" costume for Halloween,
he also wore it to the reception in which he was a groomsman.
The bride just smiled.
I tell you, that his infectious smile saved the day!

Then there's Nick's relationship with his sister.
When she had her stem cell transplant, Nick took 3 weeks off of work to be with her and with me.
We both felt his strength, concern, and love as we navigated this storm again.
This picture was taken last year, a couple of weeks before Jenny was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
Nick had invited her to Chicago for a weekend of fun with him and his friends.
The trip was a rousing success!

See what I mean,
he's an amazing man!
Happy Birthday, Nick!
I love you very much!

Happy birthday to Nick!

Happy birthday, Nick!
You're now in your 30's!
I love the way you enjoy life!
I remember that little boy who would go to the store with me, then walk up to the "bigger boys," they were at least 9 and you were 4, and say, "That's MY mom." This usually resulted in them laughing so hard and giving in to your claim.

Happy Birthday, Sweetie!
Jenny and I love you!
Pixie, Walter and Marvin love you, too!

Happy Birthday, Jenny!

Happy Birthday, Jenny!

I remember that little girl that used to give me a chin when she got mad at me. When I told her to stop, she would, but then she'd give me an elbow.

I knew when she was 2 days old, I'd have my hands full, and I did! We were told, as new parents, to keep our babies bundled. I did. Then, on day 2, I saw that determined little look on her face, and her hands were out of her bundle.

Now, I see a beautiful, young woman so full of potential and unconditional love!

I know I'm in trouble when I hear, "Mother!" I used to be calleld Mum when she was young. Times have changed. Our lives have changed, but this will never change.
I love you! Nick loves you!

Happy Birthday, Jenny!
