Won't Spring EVER Arrive!

I've been waiting so long! I went out and bought my plants last week. When Nick came home, we went to Sam's Club and bought 100 pounds of soil.

I had already bought my garden table there, and since then I've been waiting and waiting and waiting. Well, you get the picture.

So, with Nick home and ready to pick up those 50 pound sacks of dirt for me, I put the base of my garden table down and filled it with sand.

I wasn't sure how much sand it would need, so I just kept adding sand to the opening where the red cover is located. I added sand until the base felt heavy.

Now, Nick sure helped me when it came to adding the soil for the plants. We put the vines in the holes, and we actually were able to drill two other holes at the bottom of the table for plants. Can you see the tomatoes and the cucumber vines? Behind the center leg is the zucchini plant.
Nick added the dirt. He emptied a 50 pound bag into that table. I honestly didn't think it would hold that much, but it did! We added the herbs on top. I also put in an extra pepper plant on the top.

Then, I read the forcast for that night. There was an expected LOW of 37 degrees. Next step, cover up all that hard work.

I'm happy to say that it didn't get as cold as predicted. It was only 39! Needless to say, the plants all survived, but they did get a little bit cold when I uncovered them this morning. I let them bask in the sun. Tonight, the predicted low will only be 49, I think my garden will be fun. More updates to follow as the season of spring progresses, if it ever really arrives!

At Last! Signs of Spring!

At last!
There are true signs of Spring!
Take note.

Rhubarb. It's not big enough to pick, but it will be ready soon!

I was shocked to find these in the lawn already!

The sweet, gentle violet, should be one of the first blooms of spring. Soon, very soon.

Here's Spike by his tree.

I can hardly wait!

At last, Spring is Here!

If you are reading this before 6:44 AM CST, you must realized that spring has not yet arrived, and winter is still here.
Then, at 6:44 AM CST,
Spring will burst out in Southern Minnesota!
Yahoooo!
It's been a long, cold winter.
What amazed me, this year,
is that so many robins stayed. There were huge flocks of them around.
They must like the cold weather we had!
Now, when I look, I see robins with twigs in their mouths.
I see mama robins waddling around as their eggs grow inside of them.
The crows are here in force.
The twigs they carry for their nests are more like branches.
The snow is finally melted.
Today, I looked in my back yard, and, you know what? I saw stubbles of green grass on the lawn.
There's not a lot yet, but it's almost there.
Take a look at this photo. I don't know if you can tell, but there are teeny, tiny bits of green showing.

It's barely there, but, it's there!

Look at these bare tree branches. Do you see the little tiny nubs at the end of the each branch? Yes, the tree is beginning to bud!
Our temperatures have become, almost over night, more mild.
Our days are brighter.
I can hardly wait!
Spring is finally here!

I like to think we're headed towards spring.

Having lived in Minnesota now for about 20 years, I have come to think of this place as home. My blood has thickened, so when it comes to the heat of summer, I'd rather not have that much heat. When it comes to the cold of winters, I'd rather not have that much cold. Cold is inevitable in Minnesota. Last winter was a bad winter. It was more like the winters we had when we first moved here. Since then, with global warming picking up, the winters have been milder and milder, but still a bit too cold for me. Now, with not even the first snow flake having fallen, I'm thinking spring. These honker are headed south, but the next time I see them, they'll be headed north. The migration is already in progress. It's ingrained in their beings. I honestly think, we're headed towards spring.
