Tea Leaf, Snow, and Daughter, too

Today I visited my daughter. Impulsively, as the rain began to change to snow, we decided to visit a small cafe on Grand Avenue. The flakes were wet, heavy, and clung to our hair as we ventured into the Tea Leaf for a cup of warm tea.













Decorated in college decor, with a touch of the Orient, the Tea Leaf welcomed us as we shared a table, still watching the rain's metamorphosis into larger, wetter, and heavier chunks of snow.





















The snow wasn't sticking when our tea was served.





















Ooolong was the choice of the day. It warmed our hands and our insides, too!





















And the rain changed to snow more quickly than we anticipated.




















Klunkity-chunk! Klunkity-chunk! The snow fell all the way home. Klunkity-chunk-chunk-chunkity- chunk.





















Thicker and thicker fell the snow. Plop! Thunk! Splat!





















Trees lush with gold framed the falling, frozen crystals in October.





















Yet, it's wonderful weather for November! Looks like it will be a cold winter, but today was warm and cozy.

One to Three Inches on October 12, 2009

I woke up this morning to the first major snow of the season. We are still under a weather advisory for snow. The prediction is 1-3 inches by the afternoon. The snow is still falling, but it's warm enough so that the streets shouldn't be slippery. We are at 33 degrees F. right now, but our high is supposed to be 35 degrees.










This is way too early! The leaves on the trees haven't even changed. There is still a lot of green on them. Notice these trees have only the start of color change!





















The deck shows some accumulation!

The trees in my neighbor's backyard are just starting to change color. See the snow?





















I hope now that we've gotten this unseasonable weather out of the way that we warm up a bit and can celebrate a wonderful Indian summer!

October 10, 2009 What the?

So much for global warming!
It's our first measurable snow!

I'm Ready for Change, Almost

The seasons are beginning to change. Right now we are here when summer has matured and is ready to slow down for a much needed nap.

















I'm beginning to see the winds of change in the plants outside.






















The brown eyed susans are in bloom.





















The ragweed cometh. These are all signs that fall is on the way.






















Soon the leaves will begin to change color. What a magnificent show we will see then!

















The birds will begin to fly south as we prepare for the onset of winter.
















Then there is the quiet beauty of the first snowfall.

I don't look forward to the bitter cold, ice and snow of winter, but I am ready for change.

The Rain Changed to Snow!

Yesterday, we had rain. It was a nice day. There wasn't a lot of rain, but there was enough rain to keep me happy. During the night, things changed over to snow. This is what I woke up to this morning. It really is pretty, but then, it's the first snow. The roads are good. That helps. People forget how to drive in snow in the beginning. I don't think we even got an inch. That's okay, too, but there is a lot more coming from the north on other days. Those are good times to torch. Melting glass keeps me warm.






Anyway, this is a good snowfall. Most of it is almost melted now. I can't complain about that either. I feel like a nap now. I think I'll go try.
