Candy! Candy! Candy!

Yesterday, I had so much fun!  I went shopping for candy!  Why would I go shopping for candy?  Well, I joined another exchange on Lampworketc, and it's a candy exchange!

The rules are simple.  Buy candy that is not ordinary.  Fill a small flat rate box with the candy.  Include a candy bead or beads that you have made.  Be sure to mark the beads as beads so that no one tries to eat them accidentally.  I do think that is important.  te-he!  The photo is the stash I will be sending to whomever my partner is on Thursday or Friday.  And they do look delicious!

The colors aren't very good here, but they are chocolate covered cherries!
This should be fun!

Last Thoughts from the Bead and Button Show

This was the bag from the Bead and Button Show this year. Even though it looks blue, it was really purple!

The classes were great!
I love my corsage!

I love my new necklace!!

The shopping was great! These are recycled saris. They are torn strips of fabric that are sewn together by Indian women to make a living.

I can hardly wait for next year!

Dang! Those treasuries are fun!

By the time you see this blog, these treasuries might be gone, but I just wanted to show them to you.

My vessel was featured in this treasury called "Thank you for my Treasury." The curator of this treasury wanted to thank people who had commented on her last treasury. She said that she would be moving things along so that more people could be included. I thought that was very nice! The curator of this treasury is byallisonb. She has a great shop that is full of wonderful items! Take a look. I really like the bright colors!

This is my latest treasury on etsy. I don't know if it will be there when you read this, but here's the link just in case. It's called ACEO.

ACEO's are artist trading cards. They are 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. I plan to blog on these later. I am absolutely fascinated by these wonderful small bits of art! If it's still there, feel free to c and c.

Me and My Shadow

Some days are like this. It's rare, but I'm bored. I shouldn't be because I have to clean my house, make some jewelry, and cook supper. Yet, today, on this gorgeous summer day, I'm feeling lazy and bored. When I was a child, I was alone a lot. There weren't many children in my neighborhood. Actually, there was only one that I could call a playmate. Her name was Dolores and she was 4 years older than me. She was very nice to me, but she was older than me, so I didn't see much of her either. I had no brothers or sisters. I was an only child. I wasn't lonely though. I had many friends. There was Fu-fu, Kastrina, and Drinkwater. Yes, you guessed it, they were imaginary, but they were my friends. I had one other friend, my shadow. We played a lot together when no one was around. Since I was so bored today, I decided to do something that I could never do as a child, and that is to take pictures of me playing with my shadow. Here they are. It's just Me and My Shadow.

Now, where did that Shadow go?

Here you are. I feel like Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With the Wind." This is fun!

We're stepping high on the grass! This is good exercise too!

Now, I'm a paper doll. I haven't played with paper dolls since I was little! I love it!

Now, we are at the disco with John Travolta strutting our stuff on the dance floor.

Well, I'm still dancing to the music only I can hear. I wonder what the neighbors think? Oh, well, me and my shadow have had a great time! Bye. I'm going to take a nap. I'm tired.

Have Some Fun! Build a Terrarium!

Way back in the '60's, when there were flower children and environmentalists started to teach us about clean air, I made my first terrarium. Actually, my husband and I built it together. Somehow, he managed to acquire a large, glass, water holder. I remember we were both so excited about this terrarium we were going to build. We bought special tools that helped us to plant the plants and to take care of them. We added our soil and water, then, slowly but surely, we added our delicate little plants. I think they lived for about a month before they drowned in our over enthusiastic watering. It seemed that we were both watering the plants at different times, and we didn't realize it until the poor plants had drowned. At that point we both said, "Oh well," and handed off our terrarium to some friends who were as excited as we had been about helping to improve the environment. The other night as I window shopped ETSY, I came across a store that had terrariums for sale. The store owner placed moss in a jar, along with soil and gravel, and sold the product. I had been thinking that it would be nice to have some small plants in my torching area to help improve the air quality. I also realized that I should bring down my aloe plant to help with the many burns I seem to get when glass explodes as I make beads. I thought I would buy one of these terrariums until I saw the price. I felt that they were very expensive for what was being used, and the price did not include the shipping. That was very expensive, too. As I looked around my house, I saw the old canning jars that I don't use any more. I knew I had soil. I thought I had some moss growing in my garden. It turned out that I didn't have the moss, so back to square one. I just couldn't justify the cost of the terrarium that I had found since I had all the ingredients except for the moss. The next morning, I called a couple of local florists. One of them knew exactly what I needed. It was what she called Green Moss. She said if you wet it and kept it moist, it would grow. She saved me some, and off I went to buy it. It cost me less than $3, and when I was finished I had made 4 terrariums and had plenty of moss left over for more. Now, I hope to have a bit more clean air when I torch, and even if I don't I love my terrariums!
