New Fun!!!!

Pom Poms!  Yes, you heard that correctly, Pom Poms and they are fun.

This pile of pom poms started out to be a garland for Christmas, however, there was change.  With a little twisting and turning, these pom poms, when attached to the crocheted cord became, and are you ready for this?  They became a scarf!

This was fun to wear at the GSR fine art show today.  Now, I'm going to make this scarf again, in different colors and make scarves for my Etsy store.

I was sitting under a vent, and it was a bit cool.  When I put my scarf on, it was nice and warm.

The scarf is full of drama and fun!  How you drape the scarf distributes the pom poms and each drape gives you a different look.  Fun!

You can make these pom poms in any color or color combination that you like.

Pom poms are easy to make.

Isn't this fun?

Garland or scarf?  You get to decide.

Look for this soon in my Etsy store.

Leo's WoodShop on Etsy

I know Leo of Leo's Wood Shop personally.  We attend the same church and have many spirited discussions on our faith.  Leo is a very busy man.  He's always doing something or making something.  He's a woodworker among many other artisan crafts.

What I didn't know about Leo is that he has an Etsy Shop.  I found this out today.

Do you see that birch long advent wreath?  He has that in his Etsy store.  Click HERE to find it.  I have one just like this that I brought out today to prepare for Advent.  You don't have to celebrate Advent to purchase one of these wreaths!

Leo's woodworking is very environmentally friendly.   Leo does not cut down live trees to make these candle holders.  You can also leave his wreaths out all year.  The look great!

I love mine, and during the holiday season, I receive many compliments.

There are other styles available, too.  Follow the links that I have posted, and you can see all of these amazing works of art.  Leo is a master woodworker, and, even if we have spirited discussions, he's a great guy, too.

Visit his store, quickly, before the wreaths sell out!  You will enjoy your purchase!

New Treasury on Etsy

This has been an issue on Etsy for a long time now.  I think the statement, "Handmade Has Died on Etsy," bears some thought.  Etsy's policies on what is handmade have changed.  Now, a design idea qualifies for handmade even if the materials and skills to make a product are outsourced and factory made.  Importers reign on Etsy now from handmade glass beads,
to necklaces as shown in the treasury.  What to do?

I would ask you that, with the holiday season rushing in on us, to as sure as you possibly can that any product you buy be handmade.  What are some of the clues to search for?

When someone states that they are a store with employees or family members who help to make said product, question that.  There are some stores that are still handmade who do have a true family business.  Just be careful.

Look at the product.  Would it be reasonable for a 110 pound woman to  handle and put together the product, such as furniture, that is being shown as handmade.  Sometimes, it is.

Check to see if there are, like in the treasury, many of the identical products in other stores.  Most likely, it's imported.

Check the price.  When you see handmade lampwork beads in strands selling for $3.99.  I'd stay away from them.  Most likely, they are imported.

Etsy has condoned it.  Why?  Importers bring in a great deal of money for Etsy.  That might be part of it.  Maybe they made a mistake and didn't screen enough stores?  Maybe.  Maybe they are just tired of dealing with all the complaints?  Maybe.  All of the above?  Maybe.

I've been letting many of my items expire in my store.  I'm tired of paying the relisting fees to Etsy when I have to compete against the importers.  I'll probably keep a small presence on Etsy, but I don't think I'll keep as many products in my store as before.  I will also be offering a diverse product line from soaps to jewelry to handmade glass beads.  What's a girl to do?  I'm tired of it.

Need Some Advice, Please

I have a lot of small seed beads.  I used to work for a bead store, and I had a discount...Anyway, 'nuff said, except that I have a lot of seed beads!

Since my eyes are not as young as they used to be, I have a hard time seeing the small beads.  I can't work with them anymore.
So, I would like to sell them.

I have one batch listed in my Etsy store.  It's the Greens you see in the photo.  You can click HERE to see it.

Now, my question is this.  Would it be better to list sets of these seed beads for destash or to make up mixes out of the other beads I have?  What do you think? I'd appreciate your opinions on this.  Thanks.

I'm on Vacation Today!

My Etsy Store is on vacation today.

I am part of the 1% of vendors on Etsy who have chosen to put their stores on vacation today to protest the changing of the rules to include "cooperatives" who, in reality, are not artisans who make their goods using their own hands.

I have chosen to be a part of this group because I feel that Etsy has betrayed the artisan who cannot have a shop with over 800 listings and renew their listings every ten minutes.  Etsy has chosen to allow importers to sell their goods as handmade, when they are not.

Part of me does not blame Etsy, after all, it is a business, and their primary goal is to make money for their cooperation.  However, the part of me that feels betrayed is that when confronted, they simply changed the rules to allow "cooperatives" as they are now called.

Etsy used to profess its belief in handmade artisan goods.  When discussing the future of Etsy, click here to read the manuscript,  the word handmade is not included in the document.

I realize that times change.  I also realize that 1% won't hurt Etsy for one day.  I also understand that this might be an effort in futility.  Business is business.  However, I think it's time to take a stand on handmade.  Handmade is made by the artisan's hands not by the hands of someone in another country to be sent off to another person in a small factory to add more to the piece, then finally shipped to the importer, I'm sorry, I mean artisan to be sold on Etsy.  Handmade is handmade.  I am disappointed.

Unless my store is closed by Etsy, I will be open tomorrow.  See you then.

An Artist Worth Seeing - Bernadette Fuentes

When I look at Bernadette's glass art,
I see organic, tribal, primitive, explosive, exciting.
As an artist, Bernadette has brought to glass what a true artist would bring to any medium:
innovation, tradition and creativity.
Take a look at some of Bernadette's work.
I think you'll agree with me!
