Monday, June 1, 2015: Let's make a Smiley Face Coin or Bead:: Easy Peasy Polymer Clay Tutorial

It's Monday,
June 1, 2015!
Can you believe it?
So,
Yes, I know it's Monday.
No sense in not being happy!
Make the best of it.
Make yourself a smiley face
bead
or
coin.

The coins are good for scrapbooking!

Here's how we do it!

You'll need to make a simple tool for the smile.  (I used a plastic bottle.)
Cut a small piece of plastic about 1/4" x 1/2".
You should taylor this to your bead.   The tool might be slightly bigger or smaller.
Bend the plastic in the middle to form your plastic.

Condition your clay.
I make the assumption you know how to do this.  If not, google.
I used about 1/4 block of clay.
You can use even smaller scraps.  I got 2 coins and 2 beads out of this clay.

\
I divided the clay into 4 pieces.  They weren't all equal sized, but that's okay.

Flatten your clay into a circle.
If you want to a bead, make the clay a little thicker so you can poke a hole in the clay,
as illustrated in the photo.
to make a coin, simply flatten the clay a bit and don't poke a hole.
You can use whatever you have on hand to make a hole.
I used a needle tool.

Using your needle tool or whatever you have on hand, poke two holes for eyes.
They should not go all the way through the clay.
The back of the clay should have no holes.

Use your homemade plastic tool and press it into the clay for the smile.

Bake the clay according to manufacturer's directions.
Let cool.

There you have it!
Easy Peasy Tutorial for a smiley face.

Happy Monday!

I think they need a tag to go through the hole or to be on a card. It's like a happy coin for your pocket. Get a little nervous and you put your hand in your pocket and fumble around with coin, and think, "Don't worry, be happy!" Nice tutorial Mallory.
